about Dr. Alessia D’Amato
Alessia D’Amato gained her honours degree in Organizational Psychology (1995, University of Padova, Italy) and was awarded her PhD (2004) from the University of Bologna (Italy). Her dissertation, on organizational climate, was published as a book in Italy. She also gained a degree and a master in Research Data Analysis and Collection from the University of Essex. She is Chartered Organizational/Occupational Psychologist. From 1995 onward, she has been active in both the academia and the corporate world. Alessia is now a Lecturer in the area of Organisational Behaviour and Human Resource Management. She served before as a researcher or in a teaching position in several Universities in Europe and America, teaching at the undergraduate, master and MBA level. Among other commitments, at the University of Surrey she served as the local coordinator of the European funded project "Impact of Changing Social Structures on Stress and Quality of Life: Individual and Social Perspectives." At the London School of Economics (LSE) she was teaching organisational behaviour, organizational change and research methods and she also served as Course director for the 2012 summer School “Foundations of Management”. In the corporate world, she served as project leader for the implementation of sustainability/social responsibility leadership strategies, talent management, organizational climate and change and work related stress. She has been also in charge for recruitment and assessment strategies for major corporations. Since her experience in both the corporate and the academic areas, Alessia has a wealth of experience in evidence-based management and organizational development, and in training individuals and teams.
Her research interests cover a broad spectrum of topics, including organizational learning and development, leadership, personal-organizational fit, cultural diversity, talent management, team and individual training/development, and collaborative learning. Alessia’s current research projects include Leadership and cross-cultural management; How perceived organizational practices and procedures link to Leader Behaviours within Health and Third Sector Professionals; how safety can be promoted through recruitment in the maritime industry; How sustainable leadership practices can be embedded in the fabric of global business. She is also attending the PGCAP and she is particularly interested in the development of pedagogical congruence in HE and particularly how institutions are meeting the needs of their growing diverse student population.
